The SensesAs baby looks at the Frog Kick & Mirror with the colorful smiling faces the various floating sea-creatures, the motion of the water and the glowing sparkles, she develops her sense of sight.
Gross Motor SkillsWhen baby kicks at the kick-pad, she strengthens her leg muscles and her awareness of her feet.
CognitionThe Frog Kick & Mirror contributes to baby's understanding of cause & effect, the link between baby’s actions and the resulting reaction: when she kicks the kick-pad with her feet (cause), she causes interesting activity in the aquarium (effect).
An action that begins quite randomly, gradually becomes intentional as she learns about her ability to make things happen. With practice she learns that there is a link between the force of her kick and the motion she creates, so that when she kicks harder, the movement is stronger, causing the creatures in the water to bounce about more, and vise versa.
EQThe motion of the car shakes the Frog Kick & Mirror and causes the water in the aquarium to move, and the sea creatures to gently “swim” about. This movement of the water and the sea creatures focuses baby’s vision, calming her and even making her sleepy.
Age Tips3-6 MonthsThe Frog Kick & Mirror stimulates and develops baby’s sight as she looks in the mirror and at the interesting colorful sea creatures floating around in the “aquarium” in front of her.
Towards the end of this period baby will begin to kick with her legs and will randomly reach the kick-pad, which causes the water and sea creatures to move more forcefully.
Gradually she will learn that she is causing this pleasant motion and starts kicking intentionally, learning the connection between her actions – kicking, and the resulting reaction -- the movement of the water and sea creatures. In addition to the cause & effect experience, she also strengthens her leg muscles.
6-12 MonthsAs baby grows she learns to understand the link between pressing her feet against the frog’s “feet” (kick-pad) and the enjoyable reaction of the movement of the sea creatures in the water.
This understanding encourages her to kick again and again, with one or both feet, to kick more or less forcefully, and to learn the impact of her actions on the aquarium.
Baby’s improved vision allows her to discover things she didn’t see earlier and to watch the sparkles in the water and the movement of the sea creatures.
Playing with this toy
The Frog Kick & Mirror can, from time to time, be placed on the floor in the house. Your baby can then press on the kick-pad with her hands. To do so, she has to rest on one hand and press with the other. This action exercises weight transfer from one hand to another, preparing baby for crawling.
